Chantal Beauchemin is a visual artist born in 1972 in the Bois-Francs region of Québec, Canada. She grew up in the countryside on a dairy farm, where people lived in harmony with nature, following the rhythm of the seasons.
She studied fine arts at the Cégep de Sherbrooke, graduating with honors. Her main sources of inspiration are the painters Munch, Picasso and Klimt. She then completed a bachelor’s degree in graphic design at Université Laval, graduating with a scholarship of excellence.
After completing her studies, she moved to Sherbrooke in the Eastern Townships. In 2018, after a career spanning more than 20 years as a graphic designer, Chantal’s love of painting led her to embark on an artistic process, which she began in response to the painful loss of her son. The artist then reconnected more intensely with her brushes. Because art has the power to heal.
ARTISTIC APPROACH
For as long as I can remember, art has been part of my life.
Being rather introverted by nature, visual art is my preferred means of expression. I initially painted figurative artworks, before developing a passion for abstract art. Through this visual language, I seek to express my inner self by baring my vulnerability.
My approach is rather intuitive. Abstract art allows me to express myself freely, without a specific outcome in mind or imposed constraints. I aim to surprise myself. And I approach art in its simplest form: chromatic harmony, graphic composition and texture. My goal is to create artworks that transport us to another universe.
Sometimes I draw my inspiration from the lush nature that surrounds me, sometimes from the cities I’ve passed through. The result is abstract landscapes, where calm and chaos coexist.
« I strive to reveal the beauty lying in the imperfect. »
